The ISMR has conducted and cosponsored several recent events, including the following.


  • A CME symposium on Community MRSA at the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy meeting in Washington, DC


  • A symposium on Microbial Resistance, a Threat to Global Health at the American Academy for the Advancement of Science meeting in St Louis, Mo
  • Launched a successful series of MRSA Educational Summit programs that combined 2 live meetings and a multifaceted publication platform to provide educational resources on resistant organisms for healthcare providers
  • Organized the first Microbial Resistance Policy Forum (attended by representatives from the World Medical Association [WMA], American Medical Association [AMA], Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology [APIC], Institute of Medicine, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations [JCAHO], National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America [SHEA], Infectious Diseases Society of America [IDSA], and Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, as well as various senior faculty and department chairs from medical and policy departments) to update the WMA Guidelines on Microbial Resistance. A copy of the forum briefing document and policy recommendation is available for review


  • A Roundtable Discussion: Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance, cosponsored by the ISMR and US Medicine Institute for Health Studies. Approximately 30 key federal decision makers representing staff from Congressional committees, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the US General Accounting Office, Walter Reed Hospital, the Department of Defense Global Emerging Infections Surveillance and Response System, and the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) were in attendance. Representatives from the AMA, SHEA, IDSA, and the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics also participated. A copy of the executive summary is available for review
